The India National Cricket Team has suffered a big blow ahead of the second T20I against Afghanistan as Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing three-match T20I series.

Varun Chakravarthy ruled out, Ravi Bishnoi gets India chance against Afghanistan

Just before the proceedings, the BCCI confirmed that Varun suffered discomfort in his left lateral abdominal region while bowling his third over in the first T20I. Scans later showed that the spinner has a side strain, forcing him out of the rest of the T20I series against Afghanistan.

BCCI posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Note: Varun Chakaravarthy experienced sudden-onset discomfort in his left lateral abdominal region while bowling his third over in the first T20I. Scans have revealed a side strain, and he has subsequently been ruled out of the remaining two T20Is.”

At the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer has also confirmed that Ravi Bishnoi has replaced Varun Chakravarthy in the playing XI for the second T20I against Afghanistan on Tuesday in New Delhi.

Shreyas Iyer said at the toss: “Varun has got a side strain, so Ravi Bishnoi comes in for him.”
