Team India opener in the limited overs format Rohit Sharma scripted a history a few days ago and became the only batsman in ODI cricket to smash three double centuries against Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. It was a sensational piece of batsmanship by the Hitman of India as he tormented the Sri Lankan bowling line-up with his audacious strokeplay.
He began in a sedate fashion while his partner Shikhar Dhawan was playing the role of the aggressor. Both struck some excellent shots and shared a brilliant opening partnership which got India off to a brisk start. Rohit reached his first fifty in 65 deliveries while he coasted off to his 16th ODI century in 115 deliveries. He reached his landmark in the 40th over.
However, the central drama was yet to unfold as what transpired in the final ten overs left everyone dumfounds. Rohit kept on smashing sixes after sixes and made light work of the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Boundaries kept flowing one after the other as Rohit reached 150 in the 45th over. From there on it was just carnage as Rohit smashed as many as 11 sixes in the last ten overs.
He reached his 3rd double ton in the final over the innings by smashing Thisara Perera for a gigantic six and then took a single to complete the landmark. He pumped his fist and jumped into the air in delight while his wife Ritika Sajdeh got emotional and clapped for his husband.
Courtesy his sensational knock Rohit has climbed up to 5th in the Latest ICC ODI Rankings for batsmen. He had a sensational 2017 which saw him smash 6 ODI centuries during the calendar year and is only behind his skipper Virat Kohli for most runs in ODI cricket in the calendar year. Following his rise up the rankings his wife Ritika Sajdeh congratulated him on Twitter by giving a clap and a heart sign.
