Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have asked its recruits from Delhi to clear the yo-yo test, as per a report in The Hindu.
Delhi will have a practice camp at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, where the cricketers will have to clear the test.
RCB purchased three players from Delhi viz Pawan Negi, Navdeep Saini and Kulwant Khejroliya in the auction. Mumbai Indians purchased Negi for an amount Rs 1 Crore, but RCB exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card on their former player.
Kulwant went to RCB for an amount of Rs 85 Lakh. His former franchise, Mumbai Indians, bid for him but in the end, RCB went away with the player. Navdeep Saini, who is quite close to a national call-up, went to RCB for a huge amount of Rs 3 Crore.
He was recently called to team Indian’s nets in South Africa before the third Test. Saini was a part of Delhi Daredevils in the last season but didn’t get to play a game. While Negi is expected to play all the IPL games this season, Saini and Khejroliya are also expected to make their IPL debuts this year only.
Before that, though, they have to prove their fitness and have to clear the yo-yo test.
Franchise asking its players to clear the yo-yo test comes, as no surprise, as it is skipper Indian skipper, Virat Kohli – also the captain of RCB – who has made this fitness test mandatory to be there in the Indian team. A failure in clearing this test saw Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failing to make their comeback in the national side.
Kohli is making this test mandatory, and state associations have to take a note of it. Punjab squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was only selected after the players cleared the yo-yo test and Bengal Cricket Association too decided to make the test necessary for the next season.
Delhi too asked players to make fitness mandatory before the start of the season.
Surely, soon, each and every association will implement this test, which will help players to remain fit all throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Delhi will be missing the services of Gautam Gambhir in the league stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy, as he has been ruled out for ten days due to an ankle injury.
Skipper, Ishant Sharma will also be unavailable for first two games. He will join the team for last four league stage games. Milind Kumar and Shivam Sharma have replaced these two players in the team.
