It was yet another dismal performance from the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2018. Following yet another poor show, the franchise decided to make a few changes. It included the removal of Daniel Vettori as the head coach. As per reports in the Mumbai Mirror, Trent Woodhill and Andrew McDonald got sacked from the backroom staff. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore plotting to have Sanjay Banger in the backroom staff came as a surprise.
The former all-rounder is presently the national assistant coach with the India team. Hence, as per the rules, Sanjay Bangar cannot join any IPL franchise.
The same rule saw Rahul Dravid leaving his job at the Delhi Daredevils. He is currently the coach of the India U-19 and A teams. Meanwhile, some other former players like Paras Mhamrey and Bharat Arun and a few others also left their job in the IPL to be associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It is highly unlikely that Sanjay Bangar will join the Royal Challengers Bangalore
It seems highly unlikely that Bangar will leave his job at BCCI to join an IPL franchise. There are more chances of him continuing as the assistant coach of the Indian cricket in times to come. Bangar was earlier batting coach of the Indian side. He later got elevated as the assistant coach the last year. Along with Shastri and Bharat Arun, Bangar has been given a two-year contract.
Sanjay Bangar remains the premier choice for Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the former India coach, Gary Kirsten who joined RCB last year as a batting consultant might get retained. He might also be in the line to get appointed as the head coach of the franchise. Under Kirsten, India won the 2011 50-over World Cup.
However, former India pacer Ashish Nehra in all likelihood will also get retained. Nehra joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp last year as a bowling mentor. Bangalore is expected to name the head coach of the side in a few days time.
