Chennai Super Kings' Ruturaj Gaikwad Tests Positive For COVID-19

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is the latest player to test COVID-19 positive as announced by renowned sports journalist Vikrant Gupta on Twitter. It is seen as a massive setback for the three-time champions ahead of the cash-rich league. Besides, Ruturaj Gaikwad, seamer Deepak Chahar was also tested positive for the coronavirus as they held a training camp in Chennai before landing in the UAE.

On Friday, the three-time champions announced that at least ten members of their support staff became victims of the deadly disease, including an Indian player. It came to light that they have also extended their isolation period by the 1st of September for all their party. Additionally, their star batsman Suresh Raina has also pulled out of the tournament, owing to personal reasons.

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful franchises in the tournament’s history. MS Dhoni’s leadership has catapulted them to three IPL trophies and the playoffs in every season.

The likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Faf Du Plessis Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, and Deepak Chahar have been their bedrock. Due to the rising cases in the sub-continent, the 13th edition was shifted to the UAE with the starting date set for the 19th of September; however, the tournament still undergoes trials and tribulations.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the rapidly-rising Indian cricketers and boasts of an excellent domestic record. He has played 21 first-class, 54 List A, and 28 T20s. In all three formats, Ruturaj Gaikwad averages above 30 while in the shortest format, he strikes at 135.31. Hence, the 23-year old Gaikwad could be a handy player in the absence of Suresh Raina.
