Tainted Indian pacer, S Sreesanth has credited former legendary Indian batting duo, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar for making him the bowler that he was. Sourav Ganguly has been one of the most influential captains in the history of Indian cricket. He is known for backing his players even when they are not in a rich vein of form.
Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, is a living legend of cricket. During his 24-year long international stint, he has seen many players come and go and has been inspirational for a whole lot of them. Although S Sreesanth stained his career with the match-fixing scandal, he was once considered to be a prodigious talent in Indian cricket.
Now, S Sreesanth has heaped praise on the former Indian legendary duo and credited them for making him the bowler that he was.
S Sreesanth Heaps Praise On Sourav Ganguly
During India’s tour of South Africa in 2006, S Sreesanth emerged as the highest wicket-taker for India with a total of 29 scalps in his bag. Till date, it is one of the most influential performances by an Indian fast bowler in SENA countries. Now that, Sreesanth looks back at it, he realizes how Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar helped him achieve this feat.
“I still remember we had a tour match in Potchefstroom before the Test series. Sourav Ganguly was making a comeback into the team and he would take me out early to the nets before anyone. I wasn’t too good against the left-handers and bowling those lengthy spells to Dada in the nets helped me a lot,” S Sreesanth was quoted as saying by India Today.
S Sreesanth Sheds Light On Sachin Tendulkar’s Contribution In His Growth
Sreesanth, whose ban ends in September of this year, reveals how he benefited from Tendulkar’s advice, which played an impactful role in his immense success against Graeme Smith and Ashwell Prince.
“If you would notice, I bowled quite well to the South African left-handers, especially Graeme Smith. After every wicket, I would go to Sachin paaji, because he too would keep telling me from mid-off or mid-on where to bowl. I was the Man-of-the-Match, but it was all because of these legends,” S Sreesanth stated further.
“I didn’t know India had never won a Test in South Africa and it was only later that I got to know. I used to bowl against these legends in the nets and that made me the bowler I was,” Sreesanth concluded.
