Ishant Sharma, India’s senior-most pacer, proved his worth after being included in the team for the ongoing second Test against South Africa in Centurion. Despite being the most experienced pace, Ishant is not a regular in the playing eleven in the last one year or so, but his latest performance is set to do a world of good to his fluctuating international career.

Ishant was a surprising omission from the playing eleven for the first Test after his impressive show in the home series against Sri Lanka. However, he later revealed he missed the game only because of illness.

He was included in the team straight away in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar despite the latter taking six wickets and the lanky pacer fully justified the selection. On a brown Centurion track which had very little to offer to the pacers, the Delhi pacer picked up three for 46 including the prized scalps of AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, as India bowled out the hosts for 335.

Delighted with Ishant’s performance, his wife Pratima Singh took to Instagram to laud the efforts. Posting a picture of her husband with the bowling figures, Pratima praised the performance.

Meanwhile, the game is poised at the moment. After Virat Kohli’s stunning 153-run knock helped India lost 307, Jasprit Bumrah had given the visitors a flying start by reducing the Proteas for 3 for two.

However, AB de Villiers and Dean Elgar shared an unbeaten partnership of 87 runs to help their side close day three on 90 for 2.
