India’s latest spin sensation, Yuzvednra Chahal has further enhanced his reputation as one of best bowlers in One-Day Internationals by blowing away South Africa in the second One-Day International in Centurion on Sunday (February 4).

Chahal’s spin partner Kuldeep Yadav also played his part, picking up three for 20.

The leg-spinner picked up the stunning figure of five for 22, as India bowled out the Proteas for a paltry 118 in 33 overs. It was Chahal’s maiden five-wicket haul in the 50-over format and is also the best figures by an Indian against South Africa in ODIs.

At 51 for one, South Africa was in a comfortable position before skipper Virat Kohli introduced Chahal in the attack. The leggie made an immediate impact by dismissing Quinton de Kock. Kuldeep then picked up stand-in skipper Aiden Markram and David Miller inside an over to reduce the hosts to 51 for four from 51 for one1.

The cluster of wickets was followed by a good stand between Khaya Zondo and JP Duminy. However, just when it looked Zondo and Duminy have settled down, Chahal took another important breakthrough by forcing the former to miscue a sweep shot. Zondo’s dismissal ended the dangerous-looking 48 run stand.

Eight runs later, Chahal accounted for Duminy too to all but end Proteas’ hopes of posting a challenging total. Chahal went on dismiss Chris Morris and Morne Morkel to complete his maiden five-wicket haul.

Impressed with his bowling, former India opener and Twitter King Virender Sehwag took to the social media to lavish praise on the India bowling star. The legendary opener, who is known for his witty and funny remarks on Twitter, wrote:

“Chahal banayega South Africa mein Mahal. Waah, what a wonderful spell. 5 for by a spinner.”
