SA vs IND 2018: Watch - Ahead of Third Test, Cheteshwar Pujara Recalls his Wanderers Memory

Cheteshwar Pujara could not have asked for a better venue than the Wanderers to regain his form in the ongoing series against South Africa.
The right-handed batsman became India’s batting mainstay with his consistent performances in the last couple of seasons. He, however, had failed to deliver on the expected lines in the ongoing series so far, scoring only 49 runs in four innings.

With just one Test remaining, Pujara will be desperate to finish the series on a high and the fact that Johannesburg is the venue for the game would do the batsman’s confidence a world of good. It was the very ground where the Saurashtra star had put India in the driver’s seat with a monumental knock of 153 in 2013. And so when he was giving his fans a trip to the famous stadium, his eyes were lit up, as he fondly recalled the memories of the game.
“This is where it all began in 2013,” started Pujara as he gave the fans a tour of the dressing room and the famous tunnel where the players gather before walking out on the field.
The 29-year old went on to recall his innings that came against a formidable bowling lineup comprising Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Jacques Kallis and Imran Tahir.
“When I walked into bat in the second innings, that was the most crucial part of that particular Test match because you wanted to put up a decent total to make South Africa bat again and win the match. As I was walking in, I just told myself that I am capable of doing this. As the game progressed, I got in, I was trying to concentrate, and things did go my way. I ended up scoring 150,” said Pujara in the video posted by BCCI.

Pujara went on to recall how his stunning ton was acknowledged by his teammates, as he pointed towards the dressing room where the players were sitting.

Meanwhile, just like Pujara, India will also be desperate to finish the series on a good note after losing the first two Tests to concede the series. Their record will buoy the visitors at the ground. Although the ground had traditionally assisted pacers, India has enjoyed a terrific record at the venue, winning one drawing three since 1992/93.
