As India has been dominant in the ongoing six-match One-day international series which eventually saw them leading 2-0 with the latest convincing nine-wicket win over the hosts South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday. We have come up with India’s player ratings after an outstanding win over the bleak-looking Proteas.
The ranked-number one side in the ICC’s ODI charts, India chased down the target in 20.3 overs as Virat Kohli (46 off 50) remained unbeaten alongside Shikhar Dhawan (51 off 56).
Surprisingly, the lunch break was taken when India required just two to win which took many by surprise. However, before left-arm orthodox spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi sent down a maiden over it was Kohli who hit the winning runs.
Earlier, Kohli won the toss and opted to field first which proved to be a rewarding call as the Proteas side was strangulated at 118 in 32.2 overs after batting faltered on a surface which saw spinners reaping the rewards.
Coming to bat first, the Proteas had a cautious start before losing the first wicket in the form of Hashim Amla on the score of 39 in 9.4 overs and what unfolded was the heartbreak for the hosts.
Here are the detailed player ratings for the second ODI in Centurion:
Shikhar Dhawan: 5/10
After dropping a catch and somewhat had a tough day in the field, the premium left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan smashed a brilliant half-century as he struck nine boundaries for his 51*.
Almost run-a-ball, Dhawan played a significant role to score runs at the will.
Rohit Sharma: 2/10
Coming to bat, Rohit Sharma struck two boundaries and a six as he scored 15 off 17 balls. Having the liking for the fast bowlers to go over the top, as the 30-year-old batsman is aiming to give his best.
The right-handed batsman Rohit was caught by Morne Morkel on the bowling of Kagiso Rabada after the Mumbaikar was given out by Adrian Holdstock on the bowling of Rabada before Ian Gould
Virat Kohli: 7/10
Once again, skipper Virat Kohli is leading from the front and he has been the massive example for the youngsters to look at in the contemporary cricket.
The 29-year-old right-handed batsman Kohli scored unbeaten 46 off 50 balls. His innings included four boundaries and a six.
Moreover, Kohli has been remarkable when it comes to using the resources well.
Ajinkya Rahane: 1.5/10
The middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane might not have come to bat, but his presence on the field with much enough experience on his back has been helpful for Team India.
Hardik Pandya: 3/10
All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who might seemingly had an off day with the ball, but two good catches made his day.
Pandya claimed the catch of wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and Khaya Zondo.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: 4/10
The gloveman has been a major attraction for the cricket pundits and fans in particular as he was again in the picture which saw him claiming the catch of batting mainstay of the Proteas Hashim Amla.
Dhoni has been always witnessed suggesting to the wrist spinners in particular which further saw boosting the morale of the young Kuldeep Yadav.
Kedhar Jadhav: 1.5/10
There was nothing much for India when it came to the batting part, but part-time spinner Kedar Jadhav send down three overs in which he conceded 11 runs.
However, hard to decipher, Jadhav is further known for breaking the partnerships with his round-arm action.
Yuzvendra Chahal: 9/10
The promising leg-spinner did nothing wrong with the white-ball which saw him bagging his first-ever five-wicket haul in the ODI cricket.
The 27-year-old wily customer Chahal completed the feat when he dismissed bowling all-rounder Chris Morris, who was aiming for big shots.
Chahal conceded 22 runs in 8.2 overs to bag the wickets of wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Khaya Zondo and Morne Morkel.
Kuldeep Yadav: 6/10
The young wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has again delivered with the ball which saw him bagging three wickets after conceding 20 runs in six overs.
The 23-year-old Yadav has been playing a specific role since he made his entry in the national team which further saw spinners grabbing the headlines so far in the ongoing ODI series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 3.5/10
The pace bowling spearhead is known for talking the wickets and this time around he did it again by opening the mark with the wicket of the left-handed batsman Hashim Amla.
The right-arm bowler sent down five over to concede 19 runs as he also delivered a maiden
Jasprit Bumrah 3.5/10
Jasprit Bumrah has us all impressed with the white- ball which saw him making things difficult for the batsmen and in particular in the second ODI the unorthodox in action bowler, troubled de Kock.
However, Bumrah went on to pick a wicket of Imran Tahir when the latter was bowled while playing a timid short on a fuller length delivery.
Containing the batsmen, Bumrah gave away just 12 runs in five overs and like his open-bowling partner, he sent down a solitary maiden over.
