SA20 2024: SA20 To Begin On January 10 As CSA Announces Schedule For Second Season

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday (15th August) released the fixtures for the second edition of the SA20. The tournament will begin on 10th January with the blockbuster clash between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings (JSK) at St George’s Park. 

The final of the tournament is slated to take place on 10th February and this time also the event will see 34 matches being played across six venues. Every team will have an opportunity to host a home match in the opening week of the tournament. 

For the second edition, the league has announced a new playoff structure, which will be similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The table toppers will play each other in Qualifier 1 before third and fourth-placed teams will clash with each other in Eliminator. The loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will then face in Qualifier 2 and the winner will book a berth in the final against the winner of Qualifier 1. 

SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, said that they are thrilled to announce the schedule of the tournament. Talking about the excitement for the tournament, he explained: 

“With the Season 2 auction around the corner, the momentum is building and we are thrilled to announce these fixtures. We have a jam-packed opening week of matches that will captivate fans around the country. 

“We have been intentional in giving families, friends and our new fans an opportunity to watch as many matches as possible, with mid-week fixtures starting from 17h30 and weekends providing prime summer evening viewing. 

“It was fantastic to see all the fan support in year 1.  Fans can mark their calendars and expect to see more of what they experienced last summer -the same vibe, entertainment, and world class international and local talent in Season 2.”  

Coming to the teams, all six franchises have named their preliminary squads. They will now be finalizing their 19-player roster at the auction on 27 September.

SA20 2024: SA20 Full Schedule For The Second SA20 Season 

After the opening clash between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings (JSK) at St George’s Park, Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) will be seen in action against MI Cape Town in a coastal derby at Kingsmead on Thursday, 11 January. Following that Paarl Royals will take on Pretoria Capitals at Boland Park on Friday, 12 January.
