Former India wicket-keeper batsman Saba Karim resigned as BCCI General Manager Cricket Operations on Sunday. This is the second high profile resignation from the board after CEO Rahul Johri stepped down from his position. According to multiple media reports, Saba Karim was asked to leave or face termination.
Karim was involved in the smooth running of domestic cricket and was the main man behind the idea of appointing former India cricketer Rahul Dravid as the head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. It has been understood that Karim has sent his resignation to board secretary Jay Shah and president Sourav Ganguly.
“We have received his resignation; he will serve his notice period. The board will look out for a new GM in Cricket operation. The Apex Council has given powers to office bearers to fill up the post,” a board official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Karim was also involved in giving strategic direction to the cricket department, implementing the operational plans, budgeting, determining and monitoring the compliance of match playing regulations, standards of venues and administration of domestic programs.
As a cricketer, Karim played a single Test and 34 ODIs. He averaged over 56 in first-class cricket and scored 7310 runs with 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries to his name.
