There is no doubt about the fact that the 2011 World Cup win will remain the most memorable moment for all Indians.

However, for one Indian, the day will be etched in his memories forever. He is none other than Mr Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.

Regarded as arguably the greatest batsman of all time, Tendulkar realised the dream of winning the World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Any dents on a car are not pleasing to the person owning. However, Tendulkar recalls some of the “happy dents” on his car as a reminder of that special day on 2nd April 2011 when India lifted the coveted World Cup title. It was the first time India won a World Cup in 28 years and the first for the ‘Little Master” in his six attempts.

The Master Blaster who is celebrating his 45th birthday today (April 24th) recalled how his dented car added to the joy and happiness on India’s 2nd World Cup victory in 2011.

Tendulkar recalled that Anjali, being a superstitious woman, was at home. After the victory, Tendulkar invited her over to the stadium and Anjali somehow managed to reach the stadium.

Tendulkar recalls how Anjali entered the Wankhede following India’s World Cup win in 2011

Recalling the incident at the launch of Boria Majumdar’s book ‘Even Gods and a Billion Indians’ Tendulkar said,

“After we won the World Cup, Anjali (Tendulkar) Anjali (Tendulkar), being superstitious, didn’t want to be at the ground. I called her and said ‘what are you doing at home? You got to be here in the dressing room; we are all celebrating.”

“Somehow she (Anjali) made it to the stadium, and while she was getting there, just outside the stadium, people were dancing, celebrating, jumping on top of the cars.” The celebrations came to a standstill when people realized that she was none other than Mrs Tendulkar.

“They said ‘we can’t touch this car, we can’t do anything on this car’. Somehow she gets inside the stadium, and then we were all celebrating in the dressing room and when it was time to go back to the hotel I looked at the car and wondered how there were dents on the roof of the car,” he said.

Recalling the special innings of Tendulkar on his birthday exactly 20 years ago

“The driver said that ‘after I dropped madam, everyone started jumping and dancing on the top of the car’, so I said ‘these dents will always remind of that wonderful moment at the World Cup’ so, I call them ‘Happy Dents’,” he added.

On the eve of Tendulkar’s birthday, no cricket lovers will ever forget the special twin knock from Tendulkar against the Aussies in Sharjah 20 years ago.

The innings is famous as “The Desert Storm”. The innings of 143 and 134 were phenomenal. He took on the likes of Shane Warne, Damien Fleming, Michael Kasprowicz, Tom Moody with disdain.

Warne recalled following the series he had nightmares of Sachin dancing down the track and hitting him back over the head for a six.
