Sachin Tendulkar Reveals How He Turned Virender Sehwag into a Non-Vegetarian
Not a single die-hard fan would even dare to say that flamboyant batsman Virender Sehwag is a shy guy. One of the most explosive batsmen in the history of the gentleman’s game, Sehwag was a menace on the cricketing field for the opposition. Well, his ability to even hit the best of deliveries over the ropes made him a treat to watch.
And it is safe to say that he was as much entertaining off the field as he was on it during his heydays.
The Delhi-based professional Sehwag was known for pulling off pranks on his teammates. Moreover, his recent exploits on social media platform Twitter just make it tough to believe that the swashbuckling opener was once a shy man.
Well, that is what his former India teammate and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar revealed in a recent chat show.
Tendulkar revealed his ex-opening partner was ‘too shy’ even to speak to the senior cricketer. He then went on to reveal how he made Sehwag open up and also shared how he made the Delhi dasher become a non-vegetarian.
“When Viru (Virender Sehwag) had just joined, he was a shy guy. He just wouldn’t talk to me. I thought this can’t work. If we need to play together, bat together, I need to make him feel comfortable. So, I told him let’s catch up on dinner. Where he told me he was a vegetarian,” Tendulkar recalled on the show ‘What the Duck 3’.
“He was not eating chicken because he was told he will become fat. Only thing I told him was if I looked fat! Ever since, he has been eating chicken,” he added.
Tendulkar and Sehwag forged one of the best opening partnerships. Together they scored 3,919 runs in 93 One-day Internationals innings at the average of 42.13.
Concluding, they went on to share 12-century stands and 18 half-century stands. Their record is overall the fourth best till date in an International cricket.
