One of the most accomplished batsmen for the Men in Blue, Ajinkya Rahane celebrated his 30th birthday on 6th June, Wednesday and the whole cricketing world didn’t leave the opportunity to wish the stylish batsman on his special day. There were several cricketers who wished the Team India vice-captain in the longest format of the game.

Virender Sehwag who is known as a Twitter sensation wished Rahane in his won unique and witty manner. Taking to his twitter handle, Sehwag wrote, “Rahane ke Bahaane Bharat kai overseas series jeetegi. Happy Birthday, @ajinkyarahane88. May you continue to blossom.” Before Sehwag, it was Team India skipper Virat Kohli who also mentioned Rahane’s exceptional record in overseas Test in a witty manner.

Rahane is undoubtedly one of the finest batsmen for India, especially in overseas conditions. In India’s previous tour of England in 2014, Rahane struck a sensational century against England in Lord’s. It was his special knock on a seam-friendly track which helped them win the Test. It was the only victory which India registered during the series. He counter-attacked the English bowlers to perfection and enabled India to score over 300 runs in their 1st innings.

However, despite being a prolific run scorer in overseas Tests, Rahane was dropped from the first two Tests of the tour of South Africa earlier in the year. He came into the series on the back of some poor form in the series against Sri Lanka at home. However his replacement Rohit Sharma wasn’t able to make a difference. Hence Rahane was included in the playing XI for the final Test which India won.

Rahane will be the skipper for the one-off Test against Afghanistan

Rahane has been handed over the captaincy of the national team for the one-off Test against Afghanistan. It is slated to begin from 14th June. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rahane has to rise to the occasion. Afghanistan cannot be taken lightly especially given the fact that they have 3 world-class spinners in their ranks. Keeping that in aspect, we might see a seam-friendly track on June 14 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
