Saim Ayub Calls This Legendary Pakistani Batter His Idol

Saim Ayub, who recently made his international debut for the Pakistan team in the T20I series against Afghanistan, has revealed his idol cricketer. Ayub called former Pakistan legendary batter Saeen Anwar his cricketing idol.
Saeed Anwar played for Pakistan national team from 1889 to 2003. The former left-handed batter was one of Pakistan’s players to smash more than 12000 runs in international cricket, playing more than 55 Tests and 247 ODIs for Pakistan during his international career.

Saim Ayub Reveals Saeed Anwar is His Idol
While speaking to the media during the team’s training session in Lahore, Saim Ayub said that Saeed Anwar is his idol. He also said that he wants to make a name for himself just like Anwar.
“Look, I have watched the videos of Saeed Anwar. I mostly watch videos of left-handers. But, at some point, he was also my age and was famous as I am now. So, the way he became a legend, I will try to make a name for myself and people idolize me,” Saim Ayub was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Saeed Anwar was one of the finest batsmen to ever play for Pakistan. In 55 Tests, he slammed 4052 runs at an average of 45.53. He also slammed 11 centuries and 25 half-centuries. In 247 ODIs, he mustered 8824 runs at an average of 39.22 with 20 centuries and 43 half-centuries.

Like Anwar, Saim Ayub is also a left-handed batsman. Another similarity between both players is that both of them made their international debut for Pakistan at a very young age. Anwar made his international debut when he was 21 years old.

Ayub is 20 years old and made his international debut against Afghanistan recently. In the 3 T20I games against Afghanistan, Saim Ayub scored 66 runs. In the 3rd T20I, he managed to score a good knock of 49 runs. In the earlier two matches, he got out for 17 and a duck.
Ayub got an invite to the national side after his impressive show in PSL 2023. He scored 341 runs in 12 games for Peshawar Zalmi, batting at a strike rate of 165+. He shattered 5 half-centuries in the tournament with a top knock of 74 runs.
