A few years ago Sam Curran was named as the ICC rising player of the year and the England all-rounder is now making it count with his prolific performances for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2020. Curran has performed to the fore for CSK this season – a team which is known for its veteran players.

Having made an impact for CSK, Curran has been a regular for CSK. Although he has not been consistent but has been handy with the bat and ball. In their last match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Curran was promoted to open the batting for CSK as the decision came as a surprise to many.

Curran notched up a quick-fire 31 for CSK in his first match as an opener. Although his opening partner Faf du Plessis was sent packing for nought. Curran said that he was surprised to bat at the top of the order but really enjoyed it. He also mentioned that CSK found momentum against SRH.

“Yeah, very good win. Obviously, we needed a couple of wins to get the tournament going. I was surprised to get at the top of the order but really enjoyed it, I got the team off to a good start and most importantly, a good win,” Curran told Dwayne Bravo in a video posted on iplt20.com.

“It was good to bat at the top of the order, we have struggled initially to get some momentum but it came right against Sunrisers Hyderabad. I am just trying to contribute with both bat and ball,” he added.

Curran has an average of nearly 20 in the shortest format of the game. He has also picked up 72 wickets at an average of 29.94. CSK are currently at the sixth spot in the points table with three wins from eight matches.
