Samit Dravid Following In Father Rahul Dravid's Footsteps

The ‘Dravid’ tag at the end of his name is enough to pile pressure on the 12-year old Samit Dravid. The kids of cricketers in this cricket-obsessed nation always remain in the spotlight and Samit is not an exception either. The history of the cricketers’ son is only going to put Samit under no pressure. The world of cricket have witnessed several instances where the sons failed to manage get even close to what their fathers achieved on a cricket field.

It does not matter how hard the fathers try to keep their sons off the spotlight but they mostly fail. The example of Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun pretty much proves the point. The legendary batsman has always tried to keep his son away from the media attention but one way or another Arjun, who is yet to achieve anything significant in the game, hogs the limelight.

Well, Samit is also going pretty much the same way. His father, the legendary number 3 batsman in the Indian team, who is one of the most private persons one can come across, managed to insulate his family from probing eyes during his playing days but even he has failed to keep his son away from the spotlight as he has started showing glimpses of a good batsman in the making.

Samit has started following a tight schedule to realise his dream of following in the footsteps of his father. Samit is a right-handed batsman and has already impressed many with his batting exploits.

Last year, he hogged the attention after slamming 125 with 22 fours and a six in an Under-14 game. Prior to that, the bespectacled boy had grabbed the attention on several occasions with his runs-tally in inter-school tournaments. One can take a measure of how talented the youngster is from the fact that he has been lauded by none other than the great Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

Well, its too early to expect anything from Samit but given the way he is climbing the ladders at a fast pace, one can say that he is tailor-made for cricket. With a guidance like his father very much on his side all the time, India can get yet anther dependable Dravid if everything goes well in the coming days.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
