Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has spoken highly of Delhi Capitals. The capital franchise entered the IPL 2020 playoffs at the back of their victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals have looked like a formidable side in the season except for their few top-order failures which has cost them heavy.

Delhi Capitals have Shreyas Iyer leading fellow youngsters like Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant in their ranks. Senior India opener Shikhar Dhawan only adds to the experience of their squad. They are also bolstered with the presence of premier India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje in their ranks.

Delhi Capitals can challenge Mumbai Indians: Sanjay Bangar

Bangar said that Delhi Capitals had success early on and failure in the later half of the tournament followed by a good match to qualify for the playoffs. He also mentioned that the kind of combination Delhi Capitals have make them a strong team to challenge the defending champions Mumbai Indians.

“Success early on, failures were in the latter half of the tournament, and then a very good match to qualify for and play in the second spot,” Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports.

“I believe that the kind of combination they have of good, young, experienced Indian batsmen, a battery of overseas fast bowlers and Indian spinners, that is a good mix of experience, pace, youth and then, if there’s one team that can challenge Mumbai Indians, it’s Delhi Capitals. So, be aware Mumbai Indians, it’s not going to be easy,” the 48-year-old concluded.

Mumbai Indians will host Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 1 on Thursday. The Mumbai franchise have been the most successful team in the IPL and are vying for their fifth title while Delhi have set the target on their maiden success.
