Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw are already seen as the next big things in Indian cricket. Both the youngsters have already played for India after shining in age-group cricket including helping the country to win the U19 World Cup in 2018. Both have also become an integral part of their respective franchises in the Indian Premier League.

Gill is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders since 2018 while Shaw is plying his trade for Delhi Capitals from the same year. There is not a big difference between their stats in IPL so far. So far, Gill has scored 753 runs in 34 games with the help of 6 fifties.

On the other hand, Shaw has scored 800 runs in 33 games with the help of 6 fifties. In international cricket, Shaw has a better record than Gill. One of the reason behind it is that he has got more chances than his former U19 teammate. Shaw made his Test career in 2018 with a stunning ton against West Indies.

In four Tests so far, he has scored one ton and two fifties including one in New Zealand. He has also played 3 ODIs, scoring 84 runs. As far as Gill is concerned, he has played just two ODIs so far and unfortunately failed to deliver in both of them, managing just 16 runs.

Sanjay Manjrekar compares Gill and Shaw:

Shaw and Gill are yet to make their mark in international cricket but it has not stopped the fans from comparing the two. And on Thursday, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar also weighed in with his opinions. It all started when one of his followers asked him whether Shaw struggles against class-bowlers and has a problem with his defence.

In reply, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out Shaw’s fine record in international cricket so far while also saying that the youngster is a work in progress, writing:

“See, he got 54 in NZ in Tests in swinging conditions. Has 2 fifties and 1 hundred in 7 Test innings, that’s quite impressive…so…he is a work in progress with immense potential.”

This is when another user came up with his observation about Shaw and Gill as he compared the two. Calling Gill more matured, the user wrote:

“Prithvi is flashy. Gill is a more mature player and clearly more solid. Hope both evolve and deliver long careers for India.”

Sanjay Manjrekar noticed the tweet and was quick to respond to it. He agreed with the observation but did not draw any conclusion from it as he said only time will which player performs better across formats.
