Virat Kohli-led Indian side have already accomplished some unparalleled heights and are billed to be one of the greatest teams to take the field of all times. Not only at home, but the men in blue, under Virat Kohli, have transformed as a cricketing powerhouse in all three formats overseas as well. And this has provoked former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar to draw resemblances of this Indian side to that of Pakistan, captained by Imran Khan.
In the ongoing series against New Zealand, India have started the leg in a thunderous fashion by blanking New Zealand in the five-match T20 series. On more than one occasion, the visitors snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to leave the Kiwis stunned. It is this ability of his fellow countrymen that has persuaded Manjrekar to draw comparisons with the Imran Khan-led Pakistan side.
The former Mumbai batsman and now a commentator at present took to Twitter by claiming that the present team reminded him of their arch-rivals Pakistan when they were playing under Imran Khan. He said that India have found ways to win games from comfortably losing positions similar to Imran???s Pakistan and that can take place only when the self-belief is at a high.
India under Virat in NZ reminds me of Pakistan under Imran. Strong self belief as a team. Pakistan under Imran found different ways of winning matches, often from losing positions. That only happens when the self belief is strong.
Abdul Qadir opined similarly about Virat Kohli???s captaincy:
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir had nothing but words of appreciation for the Indian captain since he takes the responsibility and leads by example. He further said that it is similar to that of Imran Khan who has the personality and can bring the best out of his players.
???Both lead from the front. Kohli takes responsibility and performs and then expects other players to also perform. Imran has the personality and ability to get performance out of his players. Kohli is not yet there (at the level of Imran). But no doubt the Indian captain also leads by example by performing himself.??? the late cricketer said as quoted by India Today.
The action now shifts to the three-match ODI series that begins from the 5th of February.
