The future of MS Dhoni in the game of cricket is one of the most debated topics in the town, as the modern great took sabbatical leave for a few months now. Kapil Dev is the latest person to join the bandwagon of former cricketers or experts to give an opinion on the continuation of MS Dhoni in the Indian National Cricket Team.

Speculations are rife about MS Dhoni’s future in international cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman has not played for India since the 2019 World Cup semi-final and is expected to be back only during the Indian Premier League in 2020. As per the reports, it was learnt that MS Dhoni’s participation in ICC T20I World Cup 2020 would be based on his performances in IPL.

Dhoni has done a lot for the country – Kapil Dev

Weighing on this issue, former World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has said that Dhoni’s comeback looks difficult as he has not played cricket for a long time now. Hence, it will not be easy for the selectors to pick him even when he is available.

“If you haven’t played cricket for so long then I don’t think you can come back from anywhere. But he still has IPL, his form there’ll be important and selectors should see what is best for the country. Dhoni has done a lot for the country but when you don’t play for 6-7 months, you leave a doubt in everyone’s mind. And then that creates a lot of discussions which shouldn’t happen,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.

Despite being on leave, recently, Dhoni was spotted training in Ranchi. When he was himself probed about his future at an event, he told reporters, “January Tak Mat Pooch (don’t ask until January).”

With the 2020 World T20 scheduled to be held in Australia next year, it remains to be seen whether MSD makes another appearance at a World Cup event. Perhaps, the upcoming IPL 2020 will reveal all the answers for the continuation of former India skipper in the game of cricket.
