Team India got battered and bruised in their tour of New Zealand. While various players failed to make an impact against the Kiwis, the Indian batting unit, in particular, put up an underwhelming show. The Indian bowlers tried to make up, but they couldn’t match the Black Caps.
However, Sanjay Manjrekar has named two bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar could have fared better, had they played for India in New Zealand.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator, in a question-answer session on Twitter, suggested that Bhuvneshwar and Deepak would have benefitted from the conditions in New Zealand, whilst also citing the example of Kiwis bowler Colin de Grandhomme.
Sanjay Manjrekar on New Zealand conditions:

When an Indian fan asked Manjrekar if Bhuvneshwar and Deepak could have made a better impact in New Zealand as compared to the likes of Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami.
Manjrekar, in reply, wrote, “Bhuvi and Chahar’s bowling styles were more suited to the conditions we had for the Tests. Look at DeGrandhomme’s effectiveness as a bowler.”
While his assessment does seem sensible as both the aforementioned bowlers have the ability to extract the maximum assistance from a pitch, however, it was the Indian batsmen who looked lethargic against the New Zealand bowlers, and not vice versa.
Moreover, it must be noted that both Bhuvneshwar and Deepak were injured in the lead up the New Zealand series. While the former suffered from a sports hernia, the latter too was ruled out due to a back injury.

Virat Kohli’s assessment of the New Zealand series:

Speaking after India’s 2-0 Test match series loss, the Indian skipper reflected on things that went wrong for his side.
“So I think the outlook as far as I am concerned, and as far as I saw things happening, was not ideal for us in this series. We were not positive enough, we were not brave enough in moments, which we have done in the past,” said Kohli.
He further added, “In the crunch moments [previously], we have just gone for it; even though we have lost, still we compete. Those are things for me that need to be ironed out.”
