Veteran Indian commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar has backed KL Rahul as the first choice wicketkeeper-batsman for India in the ODIs. The choice for a regular wicketkeeper-batsman seems to be an unending tussle.

MS Dhoni had been the first choice for India since he began playing until his last game for the Men in Blue in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Since then, India has been looking for a first choice but nobody seems to fill the void left by Dhoni.

Since Dhoni’s departure, experts and fans have had their view on who should be the first choice for India behind the stumps.

Manjrekar, who played 37 Tests and 74 ODIs, was responding to questions from fans after he asked them “talk cricket” with him on his Twitter page.

He was asked whether India should stick with Rahul at number five in ODIs and does he find other batsmen other than Rahul to be in that position.

To which, Manjrekar, also a renowned commentator, tweeted, “For the moment he is the right fit. But we must keep looking for a Raina and Yuvi kind of batsman when Rahul eventually moves to the top.”

Rishabh Pant Has Failed Miserably With The Bat And The Gloves

Since Dhoni’s departure, Rishabh Pant has been given numerous chances. But, the young lad has failed miserably with the bat and the gloves in recent times.

Earlier this year, during the India-Australia ODI series, Rishabh Pant suffered a concussion which opened the doors for KL Rahul to keep the wickets.

Rahul produced some magical performances with the gloves for India. More importantly, he has been fantastic with the bat and has been open to playing different roles for the team.

He also won the Man of the Series award in the recently concluded India-New Zealand T20I series. His performance was one of the key reasons behind India becoming the first-ever team to clean sweep in five-match T20I series.
