Team India is all set to kick off their Nidahas Trophy campaign tomorrow. They will play the opening match against hosts starting tomorrow. With many senior players being rested for the series, it will provide the ideal opportunity to many youngsters to prove their mettle at the highest level. Youngsters like Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj should look to seize the opportunity. Former Indian cricketer and a current commentator Sanjay Manjrekar stressed on the same in his column for the Times of India
He was very critical of the approach of the team management on youngsters like Rishabh Pant. Manjrekar feels Pant should be part of the playing XI in all matches of the series. Manjrekar further asserted on the fact that it is a not a positive sign that the team management always includes a veteran cricketer in the absence of Dhoni or a Wriddhiman Saha. The former cricketer urged the management to keep this in mind and allow Pant play all the matches in the Tri-Series.

“That we keep going back to Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel every time we have to look beyond Saha and Dhoni is not a good sign. There seems to be a dearth of exciting quality ‘keeper-batsmen in Indian cricket today. Best they give Rishabh Pant the whole of the Nidahas tournament to show that he can be that ‘hard to find’ talent,” Manjrekar said.
Manish has wasted his opportunities in the middle order says Manjrekar
Manjrekar further added that Manish Pandey has been wasting his opportunities. Pandey has been in India’s scheme of things for a long time now. However, he has been largely inconsistent in his career so far. With KL Rahul in the squad, Manjrekar feels it will be pressure on Pandey to keep performing.
“Manish Pandey clearly has the talent but I don’t quite like his inconsistency. After that brilliant 79 not out recently in the second T20 in South Africa, he failed in the very next game, which is understandable but he had done the same earlier in his career too,” said Manjrekar.

“A spate of failures after his first century in one-day Internationals in Australia in January 2016. He cannot seem to be able to carry his form through. Having KL Rahul in the squad can ensure that Pandey remains on his toes all the time,” he noted further.
Hopeful of Raina coming good
Manjrekar further asserted on the fact that the Indian middle order remains a concern for the team. Manjrekar is hoping that Suresh Raina performs in the future matches and make a comeback in the ODI team.
“It’s the middle-order batting and finding the next generation ‘keeper-batsman after Dhoni, the areas that need to be addressed. Raina has made a promising comeback but to be sure that he is our safe option in the middle, he must continue his form. On comebacks, expectations are greater, because there are sceptics too who you need to win over,” Manjrekar concluded.
