Pakistan’s desperate need for a Virat Kohli of their own has reached a new level entirely.

Earlier, the masses in Pakistan used to compare Kohli to their opening batter Ahmed Shehzad, purely based on his looks. However, looking at the chase master reach god-level at the International arena year after year since making his debut in 2008, their comparisons seemed redundant.

However, in the recent years, the men in green found a player named Babar Azam who has been breaking records in a Kohliesque fashion. Pakistan has high hopes from the talented limited-overs batsman as they hope the right-hander would emulate VK’s feat in ODIs.

During the ODI series against West Indies last year, Azam became the second quickest batsman to score five ODI tons after Quinton de Kock. Azam’s tally of ODI runs after 25 innings is the most by any batsman. Therefore, it is no surprise Sarfraz Ahmed and co., depend heavily on the batsman who averages 51 already.

The number one ranked T20I batsman, Azam, put behind his horrid ODI leg of New Zealand tour behind and came up with a couple of impressive performances during the T20I leg of the tour.

Pakistan managed to win the T20I series by 2-1, after the 5-0 drubbing in the ODIs. Azam scored a 41 and 50* in the first and second ODI, respectively to resurrect his trip to New Zealand.

Sarfraz Ahmed, after witnessing his innings, coined the name of ‘Chotay Cheeku’ for Babar Azam while taking the field during the second T20I at Eden Park Auckland.

“He [Azam] is a young gun who will be an exceptional player. I’ll go so far as to say, at the same age, I reckon he’s as good as Virat Kohli, which I know that’s high praise but he’s right up there,” said Mickey Arthur earlier.

However, Babaz Azam dismissed any comparisons between him and Kohli.

“There is no comparison. @imVkohli is a great batsman and I am just a beginner. But I would like to be recalled as Babar Azam of Pakistan,” tweeted Azam earlier in response to a fan inquiring about the same.
