Saurashtra Skipper Jaydev Shah Bids Farewell to Cricket Midway Through The Season

Veteran Saurashtra cricketer Jaydev Shah has announced his retirement from cricket in a week which has witnessed two renowned cricketers stepping down from cricket. Earlier in the week, Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez bid farewell to cricket. While Gambhir decided to retire from all forms of cricket, Hafeez will continue to play the limited-overs.

Meanwhile, this will be a massive blow for Saurashtra midway through the Ranji Trophy. Jaydev Shah was the skipper of the side and was also the most experienced cricketer. The upcoming fifth round game between Saurashtra and Karnataka of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season will be the last game of his career.
Jaydev Shah has played 115 first-class matches scoring 5253 runs with ten centuries and 19 half-centuries. Furthermore, in the ongoing season, he is the highest run-scorer for Saurashtra scoring 326 runs n four matches at an average of 65.2 smashing a century and fifty each. In 2016, he became the first Saurashtra skipper to score a double century when he hammered 217 against Maharashtra.

In addition to, the 35-year-old also plied his trade as he was the part of victorious Rajasthan Royals in 2008. However, Mumbai Indians roped him through transfer window in the next season. In 2011, Deccan Chargers picked him then before going back to Mumbai franchise again during the 2016 IPL auction. Shah was also a part of Gujarat Lions in 2017, who bought his services for Rs 20 lakhs.
