South Africa’s injury woes are going from bad to worse with each passing day in the ongoing World Cup. Even before the start of the tournament, they had to replace Anrich Nortje with Chris Morris. In the latest setback, their star Lungi Ngidi has suffered a hamstring injury. The right-arm pacer suffered the setback in the ongoing game against Bangladesh at the Oval.

Ngidi had to walk off the field to receive treatment for a tight left hamstring. Before leaving the field, Ngidi had a tough outing as Bangladesh openers took him to the cleaners. He conceded 34 runs without taking any wicket in his four overs. Ngidi had recently recovered from an injury and would be hoping that the latest injury is not serious.

The 23-year missed this year’s entire Indian Premier League after suffering a side strain in South Africa’s ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. Lungi Ngidi was set to feature for Chennai Super Kings. The pacer is not the only injury concern for the Proteas. Senior players Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn are sidelined with injuries too.

Both Steyn and Amla are not a part of the playing eleven for the Bangladesh game. However, they are looking set to play South Africa’s next game which is against India on June 5. Amla could not make it to the Proteas’ eleven as he has still not recovered from the bouncer blow sustained in the World Cup-opener last week. The right-handed batsman was struck in the head by a 90mph ball from Jofra Archer and had to walk off.
