Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has named the one major change that team India needs to rope in if they eye a series level in the second Test of the two-match series in Christchurch. India were beaten in a comprehensive manner in the first Test on Monday in Wellington.
The Indian batting line up demolished in front of the Kiwis as they had no answers to the Black Caps’ speedsters. India were bowled out in the first innings for a paltry score of 165 runs. This allowed the Kiwis to take 183-run lead.
In the second innings, things didn’t improve for the good as India bottled up for 191 runs. New Zealand had a target of nine runs to chase in the second innings which they did easily in their first two overs and handed India a giant defeat by 10 wickets.
Scott Styris Suggests India To Bring In A Player For The 2nd Test
Speaking in the post-match discussion show on Star Sports along with Mayanti Langer and Sanjay Manjrekar, Styris said: “I am currently, as I have been for a year or two, flying flag for Shubman Gill. I think he is a special talent who India are leaving out unnecessarily. I think he could be the mainstay along with Kohli for the next 10 years for this batting line-up for India. I am not sure if he feels the same way, I would get him into the side.”
The number one Test team in the world has been beaten by none other than the Kiwis. The Black Caps beat India thoroughly and handed them their first-ever defeat after seven Tests in the format since last year.
India started the New Zealand tour on a high. They clean swept the Kiwis 5-0 in the T20 series becoming the first team to do so in the history of the sport. But, ever since then, they seem to have had lost the plot.
