In Search Of Talent, John Wright Attends Delhi-Himachal Pradesh Tie

John Wright, a member of Mumbai Indians backroom staff, was in attendance during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tie between Delhi and Himachal Pradesh at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on January 14.

Wright was witnessing the T20 contest in search of players whom Mumbai Indians can target during IPL auction. This was not the first time when Wright is performing this duty for the side as he has been performing this role for past many years and he was the one who took note of Jasprit Bumrah during 2012/13 domestic season and then Mumbai Indians bought him.

Mumbai have been so benefitted with the performance of Bumrah that they even retained him on the retention day held in the first week of January. Also, Bumrah is now a member of the Indian team in all the formats, and a large credit goes to his stint with Mumbai Indians.

At Kotla, Wright witnessed Rishabh Pant scoring fastest ever century by an Indian in T20 cricket. He touched the three-figure mark in just 32 balls, second to Chris Gayle overall. In total, Pant scored 116* runs in 38 deliveries which included eight fours and 12 huge sixes. Though Delhi Daredevils already retain pant and he is not available in the auction.

The last game of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy of the North League will be played on January 16 at Feroz Shah Kotla. Delhi is expected to give a chance to the benched in this game, thus opening up more pool of players in front of scouts who are attending the games at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

The IPL auction for the upcoming season will be held on January 27 and 28 in Bangalore. A total of 1122 players have registered their names for the league. The list will be pruned soon, and the board will come out with a fresh list, out of which franchises will choose their options. For the first time, England’s captain, Joe Root has to throw his hat in the ring to be the part of the T20 league.
