Royal Challengers Bangalore shocked the world by retaining young Mumbai batsman Sarfraz Khan in the IPL retention program along with Indian captain Virat Kohli and South African batsman AB De Villiers. The franchise ignored some international players to retain the Indian right-handed batsman like Chris Gayle, Yuzvendra Chahal, and KL Rahul. Former Indian batsman and mentor of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab Virender Sehwag feels that RCB must retain Chahal via RTM in the auction to take place on January 27th and 28th.

The former swashbuckling batsman feels that the Indian leggie is in exceptional form, especially in the shorter format of the game and has been Kohli’s got to man for wickets in the IPL and in international matches.

Sehwag said:
“I don’t know at what price he (Chahal) will go but RCB will definitely use RTM for him. If they don’t, then they will be stupid.”

Sehwag also criticized the Jamaican batsman Chris Gayle and felt that it was the right decision by the franchise not to retain him. Gayle finished the previous edition with just 200 runs, but Sehwag believes that the franchise will still go after the swashbuckling batsman.

Sehwag said:
“Gayle is now getting old. He is not the same Gayle that he once was. Last year, he played in the IPL and his performance wasn’t at that level that he was once renowned for. Teams take into account this factor when they enter the auction. Maybe RCB might go after Gayle again at the auction.”
