Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has opened up on who he thinks is the best spinner in the world. Shahid Afridi named a player from his own country amongst all other countries. While Pakistan has always known for produced quality fast bowlers, the sub-continent nation arguably has also cultivated potent spinners.

Most often Pakistan boasts of producing and nurturing quality seamers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Aaqib Javed, Sarfraz Nawaz, Umar Gul, and Shoaib Akhtar. However, it should be duly noted that they have had quality spin-bowlers in their repertoire too. Yasir Shah remains the frontline spinner for the national team in Tests today.
During ancient times, Pakistan has had Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, and Danish Kaneria in their ranks. As a matter of fact, Shahid Afridi is also one of the best spinners, who buys wickets out of nowhere. With 393 wickets and 97 wickets in ODIs and T20Is respectively, he has the most wickets by a spinner for Pakistan in limited-overs.
When a fan asked Shahid Afridi himself via Twitter to name the best spinner of all time, he took the name of former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir. Abdul Qadir was often considered a better spinner than even Shane Warne and took 236 Test wickets and 132 ODI scalps. Sadly, the former chief selector passed away due to cardiac arrest in Lahore in September 2019.
Below is Shahid Afridi’s tweet:
