Shame That CSK Fans Have Been Starved Of IPL Cricket In The Last Two Years, Says Mike Hussey

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL. The only team which has defended its IPL title so far, Chennai Super Kings have won the league twice-2010 and 2011 in addition to making it to the summit clash on four different occasions including the inaugural season. They have also won the now-scrapped Champions League T20 twice.

However, their brilliant track record in the league hit a roadblock when the Supreme Court banned them along with Rajasthan Royal for two seasons each after some of their team owners were charged for corruption by the apex court in 2015. But now that the suspension has ended, fans  are eagerly waiting for the Super Kings to set the ground on fire from next season onward. And while there are apprehensions that the Super Kings’ popularity might take a beating after they make the much-anticipated return in the next season, their former opener Mike Hussey feels otherwise.

Expressing his delight to see both the franchises returning to action from next season, the former Australia batsman said the fans are very excited.

“It’s great to have both teams back — Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. I have been here in Chennai for the last few weeks and have been talking to a lot of fans; they’re very excited. Obviously CSK has a huge following here. It has been a shame that they (fans) have been starved of IPL cricket in the last two years, but now it’s going to be an exciting comeback,” Hussey said.

“I am sure the fans will be right behind the team again. I think even for the rivalries – there are some great ones that CSK built up – with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders. It will be good to see those kind of matches again. The fans will love it,” he added.

With a new core and players, the teams might struggle to hit the ground running and Hussey while admitting it said that it is going to be an interesting challenge for both the teams.

“It is going to be an interesting challenge to see if the team can get back up there straightaway or if it takes time. The management will have to work hard to put together a strong team again. Let’s see how that goes but it is exciting to have them back,” said the former Australia international.
