Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has blasted Matt Prior after the former England Test star publicly rejoiced in Nathan Lyon’s heartache. Lyon endured a heartbreaking setback during Australia’s shock loss at the hands of England in the third Ashes Test.

It looked all over for England when they were reduced to 286 for 9 while chasing 359. But before Australia could take the final wicket and seal the Ashes, Ben Stokes decided to torment them. He hit four boundaries and seven sixes to seal the most unlikeliest of victories for his team. Stokes scored an unbeaten 135 to keep the Ashes alive.

However, Nathan Lyon had the Ashes on his fingertips when a horrible mix-up between Ben Stokes and Jack Leach handed the Aussies a relatively simple runout chance late in the game. But Lyon fumbled the ball and couldn’t complete the runout that would have meant Australia retained the Ashes. And while Lyon was devastated with the setback, Prior used the opportunity to mock him.

The former England international took to Twitter, posting ‘Nathan Lyon’ alongside a wide-eyes emoji and the hashtags #mothercricket and #sleepwell.

But Prior’s message did not impress Shane Warne at all and the legendary spinner did not waste much time in questioning the tweet.

“Excuse me? Just because Lyon knocked you over for fun, there’s still no need for that kind of silly and immature behaviour. Grow up, and enough of those stupid comments. Let’s celebrate the wonderful game of test cricket and the Ashes please!”

Prior, however, was having none of it as he hit back by tweeting:

“Not worried about him knocking me over mate and agree it was a fantastic game of cricket but comments made were always going to bite back as we all know.”

Prior was referencing a story in which Lyon admitted he wanted to ‘end careers’ during the last Ashes series in 2017-18. Meanwhile, the fourth Test takes place at Old Trafford on September 4, with The Oval hosting the series finale on September 12.
