It was yet another brilliant series between two dominant limited-overs sides India and England. After the Men in Blue managed to win the three-match Twenty20 International series, it was hosts England who managed to hold their nerves and seal a 2-1 series victory in their favour.

England not only retained their number one position with the victory but made clear indications about their plannings for the 2019 World Cup which will be held in England and Wales.

The coveted tournament is slated to commence in less than 12 months time.

England thrashed Australia by a 5-0 margin in ODI series. India was very competitive but eventually failed to manage to seal the series in the end.

Given the form they are in, England is one of the clear favourites to lift the ODI World Cup, next year. If they do manage to stretch their form, England will be a pretty tough team to play against during the quadrennial event.

Team India pacer Shardul Thakur was part of the Indian Playing XI in the third and the deciding ODI at Headingley. He had a good day with the ball but India was eventually thrashed by eight wickets. He further added that the hosts are the favourites to lift the World Cup.

They will be playing at their home conditions and it will be a big opportunity for them, believes Thakur.

Shardul Thakur confident of India’s good showing in World Cup next year:

The pacer is confident of India putting up a strong performance in the 2019 World Cup. He added that Men in Blue have accessed the conditions in England pretty well which will definitely keep in them in the right stead.

England has been a pretty dominant side in the 50-over format. Their combination has been quite brilliant in the shorter formats.

“They are obviously favourites because these are their home conditions. England know them better how to play cricket here, so other teams have a big challenge to play here. They have played well against Australia recently and now against us, so it will be difficult to beat them. But when we do come back (for the World Cup). We will be all geared up,” Shardul said at the post-match presentation.
