Sanju Samson was greeted with chants of ”Sanju… Sanju…” ahead of the second T20I game at Thiruvananthapuram. The flamboyant batsman was expected to receive his second cap in the game at his home ground. However, the Indian team management continued with Rishabh Pant, as Virat Kohli wants to go with the same XI to seal the series. Meanwhile, the Congress Politician questioned the exclusion of Sanju Samson for the second game in Thiruvananthapuram.

Ahead of the start of the game, the crowd greeted Sanju Samson with a loud cheer when he entered the venue to get his warm-up. The young wicket-keeper batsman acknowledged the support from the stands and waved towards them. Even the head coach Ravi Shastri joined in the fun and playfully tried to hit him, to rile up Samson’s loyal fan base.

His tweet read ”Most of us hoped the Indian team would have made the gesture of resting a player to allow @IamSanjuSamson to play in front of his home crowd. We would have inspired him to great feats of derring-do!”

Sanju Samson wasn’t initially picked in the 15-member India squad to face Windies. However, the Kerala batsman received a reprieve following Shikhar Dhawan’s injury, which forced the star opener out of the three-match series.

Despite receiving the call-up in the two consecutive series, Samson failed to get even a single game under his belt. First-choice wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant kept Samson out of the playing XI. It would be interesting to see whether the youngster will get the nod for the final T20I or not. As per the reports, he is also in the lineup to replace Shikhar Dhawan in ODI format.
