Sri Lankan fast bowler Shehan Madushanka suffered a body blow to his career after cops caught him on Monday with two grams of drugs on Saturday. In the latest development, things aggravated for him as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suspended him from all forms of the game with immediate effect for indulging in wrong-doings.
The decision to suspend would not lift till a full inquiry is conducted by Sri Lankan Cricket into the matter. It comes as a massive dent on Shehan Madushanka’s international career as he was one of the upcoming stars, having snapped a hattrick on his debut game recently.
It is the first occasion that a contracted player was incarcerated for the possession of drugs. Shehan Madushanka and his friend faced an arrest on the 23rd of May for possessing heroin. The magistrate at Kuliyapitiya ordered for him to be under custody till the 2nd of June.
Shehan Madushanka’s sensational hattrick:
The 25-year old’s three wickets in three consecutive balls came against Bangladesh in an ODI in January 2018. Madushanka claimed the wickets of set batsman Mahmudullah, skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, and pacer Rubel Hossain. In the process, he became only the fourth player to achieve the feat. That was also his only One-day international in his career so far.
It occurred in the final as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 79 runs to win the tri-series, involving Zimbabwe as well. The Wennappuwa-born speedster went on to play two T20Is well, taking two wickets at an average of 31. Shehan Madushanka’s domestic career entails 14 first-class fixtures and 19 List A games.
