It will some sort of debut for both Sheldon Cottrell and KL Rahul. While Sheldon Cottrell, the Jamaican Defence Force Soldier turned West Indies cricketer, will make his debut in the IPL, it will also be the first season as captain for KL Rahul. The India top-order batsman was promoted to the position after his phenomenal run for KXIP in the previous edition of IPL.

Sheldon Cottrell, who has proved his prowess in international cricket, was bought for INR 8.5 crore in the players’ auction. He will join the likes of Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran in the franchise. Cottrell said that KL Rahul is a phenomenal cricketer and he is looking forward to pick up his brains and play in the IPL.

“He is a phenomenal cricketer, looking forward to picking his brains,” said West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell  to ANI.

“I am very much excited about playing in the IPL. I just cannot wait to be with the Kings XI family. I am looking forward to playing under the captaincy of KL Rahul, he is a wonderful guy. I would be playing alongside Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran as well. I am going to give my 120 per cent all the time,” he added.

Cottrell has feature in 27 T20Is for the West Indies. He has picked up 36 wickets at an average over 20 in the shortest format. He was last seen in action in the series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

IPL 2020 will get underway from September 19 with its final being played on November 10. The lucrative tournament will be played for the second time in UAE. However, the fixtures are still to be confirmed, but it looks like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face off against Mumbai Indians in the inaugural contest.

Mumbai Indians, the four-time champions, will put their title on defense.
