Delhi will be bolstered with the presence of India’s limited-overs opener Shikhar Dhawan during the Vijay Hazare Trophy as the left-handed batsman has confirmed that he will turn up for Delhi in the List A tournament. Dhawan was not named in the squad for the tournament but it was confirmed that he will return for Delhi later.
On the eve of the final T20I against South Africa, Dhawan confirmed that he will be playing for Delhi. Though it is not confirmed whether he will be available right from the first game or after few matches.
“Now even after this series, I am going to play Vijay Hazare as well. I am looking forward to that. I make sure that whatever cricket I play, I play with all my heart whether it’s Ranji, Vijay Hazare or the Indian team,” he said.
Dhawan, last season, took a break after Australia limited-overs series and missed Ranji Trophy. This season though he is also expected to play the first-class cricket for Delhi.
Dhruv Shorey will be leading the 2012/13 Vijay Hazare Trophy champions in the tournament that kicks off on September 24. Rishabh Pant, who is a part of the Test series against South Africa, will also be available for his state team.
He will fly to Vadodara after the conclusion of the third T20I tomorrow and will keep wickets for Delhi on Tuesday. Rishabh is expected to play at least two matches for Delhi before joining the national team in Vizag for the Test series.
Apart from him, India pacer Navdeep Saini is also a part of the squad. He will be available for complete as Saini wasn’t named in the Test squad. Pawan Negi will perform the all-round duties along with Manan Sharma and Subodh Bhati. Nitish Rana will be the lead batsman for Delhi.
Apart from Rishabh, Shubman Gill and Hanuma Vihari are other Test players who will be available for their state teams. Gill will play for Punjab while Vihari will turn up for Andhra Pradesh in initial matches.
