Shikhar Dhawan Hails Virat Kohli's Leadership Abilities
Shikhar Dhawan, in a recent interview, lavishes praise on national team skipper Virat Kohli’s captaincy skills. The southpaw hailed his India teammate by stating he leads from the front and is growing in a stature as a leader.
Kohli has been an absolute revelation as skipper. Before the tour of South Africa earlier this year, India had not lost a Test series under Kohli’s captaincy since he led the team against Sri Lanka in 2015.
Team India India had won that series 2-1 which was their first Test series win in Sri Lanka after 22 years. After that, the Kohli-led side had defeated South Africa 3-0.
During the the mammoth 2016-17 season, the team defeated Windies (2-0), New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1-0) and Australia (2-1). It was followed by two series wins against Lanka.
Even in One-day Internationals, Kohli is yet to lose a series as skipper.
In addition, Kohli led the team from the front to the grand finale of last year’s Champions Trophy.
Under his captaincy, India is ranked No.1 in Tests, number two in ODIs and number three in Twenty20 Internationals.
Owing to the fact that he was named as the captain of both the Test as well as the ODI team of the year in the last ICC Awards. Subsequently, it reflects his success as skipper.
And just like many, Dhawan is also impressed by Kohli’s leadership. The opening batsman also hailed Kohli’s never-say-die attitude.
“Virat Kohli has been leading from the front. He is performing so well and is growing as a captain. Kohli will also get better with experience. He plays aggressive cricket and is never bogged down in hard situations. That’s the special thing about him,” Dhawan told India TV.
India’s next big task is the upcoming series against England. The last two tours of England went in absolute dismay for India and Kohli would be hoping to turn things around this time.
Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan also said that the upcoming series can witness ‘ a little bit of sledging’.
“By aggressive cricket what I mean is that we would like to perform with the bat and ball and not indulge in sledging. However, a little bit of sledging is okay,” he said.
The tour will kick start with the limited-overs leg. The teams will first play three T20Is and as many ODIs before taking on each other in the five-Test series.
