India have a problem of plenty at the top order ahead of the 2020 T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma is certain to be one of the openers for the marquee tournament. But Shikhar Dhawan will be up against the in-form KL Rahul to fill-in the other opening slot. However, Shikhar Dhawan is unfazed by the competition and has been concentrating on his game.

KL Rahul has proved his batting prowess during India’s tour of New Zealand. He scored at the top of the order and also when he pushed down the order. His neat glovework only makes his case further stronger for the T20 World Cup.

Shikhar Dhawan: Team selection not in my hands

Shikhar Dhawan has been in and out of the team due to injuries. However, he has been known to perform in the ICC events, and has a good record. Dhawan is not worried about the competition and is rather preparing himself for the marquee event. He also said selection is not in his hands and he can only keep himself ready for an opportunity.

“I am aiming for the World Cup, I am preparing for it. I am working on my fitness. I know whenever an opportunity comes, I should be ready to play. Team selection is not my hands. I want to perform. Over the last 1 year, it’s been about getting injured and making comebacks for me. It’s part and parcel of the game,” he told Irfan Pathan on Instagram.

Shikhar Dhawan: KL Rahul is playing very well

Shikhar Dhawan was full of praise for KL Rahul. He said it gives him a lot of joy to watch him bat from the other end and he is doing it quite well. The southpaw also recalled his knock against Sri Lanka and said it looked like KL Rahul is batting on a different level.

“Of course, KL Rahul is playing very well. It gives me a lot of joy in watching him bat from the other end. He is on another level. I watched him bat during the Sri Lanka series. It was my comeback. I was at the non-striker’s end. He was hitting it all over the park. It was on a different level. I was loving it. He is playing so well. Rohit is playing so well,” he added.

As things stand, it is likely that KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan might both get a place in the playing XI as the former can bat deep down the order.
