India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has checked in at the National Cricket Academy for the rehabilitation. Dhawan was ruled out of the World Cup due to a fractured thumb when he was hit on his hand by Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins. The southpaw batsman was on 24 runs when he suffered a blow to hand and he went on to score 117 runs off 109 balls.

Subsequently, Dhawan’s injury was a big blow for the Indian team as the southpaw batsman has an impressive record in the World Cup event. Hence, combative wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was named as the replacement for Shikhar Dhawan.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar also arrived at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Shankar will be assessed for the toe injury. The all-rounder was also ruled out with a toe injury which he had suffered while facing Bumrah in the net session. Consequently, Mayank Agarwal was called into the squad in place of Shankar. However, the Karnataka batsman did not get a chance in the playing XI.

Meanwhile, India’s squad for the West Indies tour will be selected on July 19. India will play three One Day Internationals, as many T20Is and two Test matches on the Caribbean shores.

On the other hand, there is still no update on MS Dhoni’s retirement. It was reported that Dhoni would retire from International cricket after the conclusion of the World Cup. However, Dhoni is yet to make the official announcement. Furthermore, it is reported that the BCCI selectors might drop MS Dhoni from the squad if he doesn’t make the retirement announcement. Furthermore, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to be rested for the tour.

Meanwhile, India will play the first T201 on 3rd August whereas the ODI series will commence from 8th August.
