The bilateral relation between India and Pakistan might be at an all-time low but former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his desire to coach Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The BCCI has not allowed the Pakistan players to play in the cash-rich league after the inaugural season in 2008 because of the poor relation between the two countries.
In the inaugural season, Shoaib Akhtar had played for Kolkata Knight Riders. The legendary pacer carved a place in the IPL folklore with a stunning performance against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) on his IPL debut. He had picked up 4 wickets for just 11 runs to fire the Knight Riders to a stunning win.
Shoaib Akhtar has now expressed his desire of donning the coach’s hat for the Kolkata-based outfit. Not only that, the Pakistan great also said that he would accept the role of India’s bowling coach if an offer is made to him.
“I will definitely. My job is to spread knowledge. What I have learned is (ilm) knowledge and I will spread it. I will produce more aggressive, fast and more talkative bowlers than the current ones who will tell-off the batsmen in a way that you will enjoy a lot,” said Shoaib Akhtar in his latest interview on social networking app ‘Helo’.
Well, Shoaib Akhtar getting a chance to coach Kolkata Knight Riders or India looks pretty much impossible at the moment. India and Pakistan have not played a full bilateral Test series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals. They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20s in India in December 2012, but otherwise, both have faced each other only in the ICC organised events or the Asia Cup.
