Akhtar is known for not mincing his words and recently he got embroiled in a raging controversy following his criticism of Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] legal advisor Taffazul Rizwi after Umar Akmal was handed a three-year ban for failure to report spot-fixing advances during the Pakistan Super League.

Such has been the career- on and off the field- of Shoaib Akhtar, that his biopic- if it ever gets made- has all the ingredients of being a blockbuster.

The former speedster says that it up to the fans and filmmakers to decide, however, he would ideally want Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to portray his character.

“I know that is the trend these days, but I am no one to decide that. If people think that my life is interesting and inspiring, then they can make a movie out of it. If not, then let it be. It is for fans and filmmakers to decide. I’d like to see Salman Khan playing my role in the biopic, if that happens.” Shoaib Akhtar told IANS.

In the past few years, the trend of making biopics on sports personalities has really kicked on. From Bhag Milkha Bhag to Azhar to MS Dhoni- The Untold Story to Mary Kom, a plethora of biopics have been made on the silver screen.
And, with Akhtar’s story having a fair share of everything ranging from memorable heists, whirlwind start to the career, brawls,  drug suspensions, tussle with the board, it could well turn out to be a blockbuster.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Akhtar embroiled himself in another controversy last month when he came up with a proposal of staging an India-Pakistan bilateral ODI series in order to generate funds for COVID-19; an idea that led to the war of words between him and former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev.
