After a poor run in the previous match, Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer came back strongly in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Sharjah. Iyer anchored the innings for Delhi Capitals as he notched up an unbeaten 88 off 38 deliveries to help his side reach a total of 228/4.

KKR started their chase on a poor note as they lost Sunil Narine early once again. Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana then went on to add crucial runs for the side before Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi began a late onslaught but lost the match by 18 runs.

I wouldn’t say I am a gifted player: Shreyas Iyer

By the virtue of the victory, Delhi Capitals climbed to the top spot of IPL 2020 points table with six points. Iyer said that it was necessary for him to take time in the beginning of his inning which he couldn’t in the previous game. He also said that his smart work paid off and he wouldn’t call himself a gifted player.

“It was really necessary for me to take time at the start which I did in the earlier games as well. It was the right time for me to take on the bowlers and then rotate the strike as well after that. Luckily it worked out for me. I know the hard work and the smart work I have put in through my gym sessions, so I wouldn’t say I am a gifted player,” he said in the post match presentation.

“We keep talking about close victories and this was one of them. Really satisfied with the way everyone stepped up.”

Delhi Capitals will next take on  Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday in Dubai. A win can help them further consolidate their position at the top of the table.
