India’s new number four Shreyas Iyer has created another record in the final ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand at Bay Oval. Iyer continued his great run with the bat and scored yet another half-century for Team India in the third ODI.
Having won the toss, Kane Williamson invited the visitors to bat first. The Kiwi bowlers started in a great manner by getting early wickets of Mayank Agarwal and captain Virat Kohli.
Prithvi Shaw also departed after getting a good start once again. India looked in all sorts of trouble and Iyer and KL Rahul were the only hopes for the Men in Blue to reach a challenging score.
Both Iyer and Rahul eventually delivered with the bat as Iyer scored another half-century in New Zealand whereas, Rahul went on to score a ton. This helped India to finish on a high as they posted 296 runs in the first innings.

Shreyas Iyer Creates A New World Record:
Iyer has now slammed eight fifties and one century in 18 matches. His average is greater than 49 while his strike rate is better than run-a-ball.
With his latest fifty against the Kiwis, Iyer surpassed former Australia cricketer Ian Chappell’s mark to set a new world record.
Iyer now holds the record for the best percentage of 50-plus scores in ODIs. He has nine 50+ scores in 16 innings in the 50-over format and his percentage reads 56.25.
Earlier, the record was held by Chappell, who had eight 50+ scores in 16 innings.
The highest percentage of 50+ scores (min. 10 innings)
56.2 – (9/16): Shreyas Iyer (IND)
50.0 – (8/16): Ian Chappell (AUS)
50.0 – (5/10): Aaqib Ilyas (OMN)
44.5 – (8/18): Anshuman Rath (HK)
43.7 – (7/16): Rassie van der Dussen (SA)
India has now been in a long find for the number four position in limited-overs cricket. It has been a state of worry for Team India for a very long time now.
This issue even cost India the 2019 World Cup as they lost to the Kiwis in the semi-final after a batting collapse. Iyer now proves to be the Mr Dependable for the Men in Blue.
The New Zealand tour has been a great one for him. He has cemented his place as a regular number four for his side after displaying staggering performances.
Having scored a century in the first game, he has smashed back-to-back half-centuries for India.
But, his performance has not been enough for Team India to beat the Kiwis in the 50-over format as the Men in Blue lost a first bilateral series since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
