Shreyas Iyer Likely to Replace Virat Kohli for the Historic Afghanistan Test

The young batsman from Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer is likely to replace Indian skipper Virat Kohli for the historic One-off Test fixture against Afghanistan starting from June 14 at Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Kohli will miss the Test – to prepare for the upcoming Test series in England. He will be playing for the County Cricket Club Surrey in the month of June to adjust to the conditions.
Although this decision was not taken by a faction of cricketers, other hailed Kohli for his proactive approach. However, there is no doubt about the participation of Ishant Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Both the cricketers are plying their trade in the County Championship and will be back in due time.
Iyer likeable replacement for Kohli:
The pattern of the selection committee led by MSK Prasad indicates that young Iyer can take Kohli’ place. As a result, the 24-year-old is in line for his Test debut against Afghanistan.
“We have like for like replacements. For Kohli, it has been Iyer. For Jadeja, its Axar Patel, for Hardik Pandya, it is Vijay Shankar. So you cannot miss the pattern,” PTI quotes a selection committee member.
Previously, the selectors had picked Iyer as Kohli’s cover during the Dharamsala Test against Australia in 2017. However, Kuldeep Yadav made his debut and had an outstanding outing.
Meanwhile, with 3,989 runs in 46 first-class matches at an average of 53.90, Iyer will be keen a make an early mark.
However, he has been in great form for the Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Although his team Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t done well, he has led well since he took the captaincy from Gautam Gambhir.
Shreyas Iyer will look to give his best and make the most of what’s coming his way.
