Team India’s No.4 conundrum remained unsolved even after the World Cup 2019. India had experimented with the slot depending upon the situation during the marquee tournament. But soon, Shreyas Iyer, stepped up in that position and proved he can be a good fit at that position.
Iyer has played quite a few innings for the national team in the limited-overs format and proved to be a handful. He, however, is yet to earn his Test cap for the national team.

No harm to try Shreyas Iyer in Test cricket: Wasim Jaffer
Shreyas Iyer is a versatile batsman. He can adjust his game as per requirement. He averages nearly 50 in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and has the potential to do well in the longest format of the game. Wasim Jaffer believes he can be tried in Tests as his track record in Ranji trophy is up to the mark.

“Shreyas is a very good player as he has got runs in the Ranji Trophy and India A. The guy is in some form now and is confident as well,” Jaffer told SportsCafe.
“There is no harm to try him out in Test cricket. He backs his game and plays the same way no matter what the situation. He has scored 1300 runs for Mumbai in one season and whenever he has got the chance to play for India A he has done well. So I feel when the opportunity arises, he is the guy to look at.”
Iyer has scored 784 runs in ODIs from 18 matches. He has the highest score of 103 — his only century in the game. Besides this, he has also hit eight half-centuries in the format.
Whereas in the shortest format, Iyer averages over 27 with two half-centuries. He is also the captain of Delhi Capitals.
