India’s rising star Shubman Gill has given credit to Rahul Dravid for taking giant strides in his young career. Gill has spent the last two years with his Under-19 and India A coach and the difference has been massive. The prodigy young batsman was the Player of the series for scoring 364 runs in the Under-19 World Cup.

Subsequently, Gill has thus far scored 790 runs in the ongoing Ranji Trophy while playing for his state team Punjab. Furthermore, the youngster scored a gargantuan score of 268 runs to announce his arrival at the domestic circuit in style. As expected, Gill was added to India’s squad for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand.

Gill is confident of savouring success.

Gill has shown the promise to be the future of Indian cricket. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid has made sure he has been a perfect gardener for these young kids who are trying to blossom in Indian cricket. Dravid has done justice with his role as he has carefully watered these young plants. Thus, the WALL must be a proud coach who has a rich garden now.

“I am deeply influenced by Rahul Sir. He has been with me for the last two years – at the U-19 level and then during the India ‘A’ tours. Thus, he understands my batting really well. He ensured my batting evolved and got better,” Gill said while talking to TOI.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill is on cloud nine to share the dressing room with the best batsman in the world and his captain, Virat Kohli. Gill revealed Kohli is his idol and he would like to take notes from the great batsman.

Surreal feeling to share the dressing room with Virat Kohli.

“I am really excited to share the dressing room with Virat. It is a surreal feeling. He is my idol. I like the way he handles pressure. Now, I’ll get the chance to learn from him directly,” Gill added. “Often I watch Virat’s batting videos on YouTube. Whatever I learn, I try and put it into practice in the nets,” the youngster added.

Gill is hopeful that if he grabs his opportunity in the series against New Zealand, he can be in contention for the World Cup squad. The prodigy batsman is ready to bat anywhere in the batting line-up to seal his place.

“If I do well for my country, then there is a chance that I might even make the 2019 World Cup squad. For that, I will have to make good every opportunity that is given to me,” he said. “My preference is the opening slot but if I am given an opportunity in the middle-order, I will try and maximise that chance.”

Gill has done well in the domestic circuit and will like to take the leap to the topmost level of the game. The 19-year old has all the potential and he is the future of Indian cricket.
