Shubman Gill is amongst the plethora of youngsters that the selectors have opted for in the upcoming tour of Australia. Despite not having a promising record in the limited international opportunities that he has got, former cricketers have earmarked Shubman Gill as the next big thing. The right-handed batsman is merely excited for the tour and not yet set personal goals.
In the last couple of years, Shubman Gill has heavily scored in the domestic circuit across formats. Overall, in 21 first-class games, Gill has 2133 runs at a whopping average of 73.55 with seven centuries and ten fifties. The 21-year old has shown his class in the List A version too, amassing 2280 runs in 57 fixtures at 45.60 alongside six centuries and 11 fifties.
The Punjab batsman was also pretty consistent for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020. Gill increased his runs from 296 in the 2019 edition to a staggering 440 this year, hammering three fifties at 33.85. Nevertheless, the youngster’s strike rate of 117.96 was an underwhelming one. The selectors have opted for him in the Test and ODI squad; however, it remains to be seen if Gill plays.

Shubman Gill pointed out that growing up; he has watched plenty of matches between India and Australia and is quite excited to be there. The 21-year old identified the fun side of everything since plenty of his friends are travelling too. As far as goals go, he has not set any as of now. In the two ODIs that Gill has played thus far, he only has nine runs.
“I am really looking forward to Australia because this is my first trip. As a kid growing up, I always watched the matches between India and Australia. I am really excited. The fact that a lot of my friends are traveling with the team, so it will be fun and exciting. I have not really set any personal goals, but I am really looking forward to the tour,” Gill said in a video posted by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Twitter on Monday.
